Low brass is the most popular brass alloy for wire cloth screens. With an analysis of 80% copper and 20% zinc, low brass offers good resistance to corrosion like copper although its electrical and thermal conductivity are lower. Cartridge brass with an analysis of 70% copper and 30% zinc is slightly higher in strength although more difficult to weave. The tensile properties of brass screen is higher than those of copper with some sacrifice in formability.
Brass resists atmospheric corrosion, water and many salt water solutions. A high percentage of zinc makes it stronger and more durable than copper and bronze.
Bronze is abrasion resistant and is well suited for exposure to most atmospheres. Its high copper content makes it more corrosion resistant than brass. It is also harder and stronger than copper.
